New Mexico's water governance is broken.  Despite ongoing patchwork updates since the 1907 enactment of our water laws, New Mexico's regulatory regime is obsolete.  The world has changed.   Wide use of groundwater, heavy urbanization, and certainly climate change were not on people’s minds back when we became a State.  New Mexico water law and administration require reform if we are to survive New Mexico’s arid future.

The Middle Rio Grande Water Advocates (MRGWA) will convene a virtual conference on Saturday, January 8, 2022, to bring experts and community members together to develop specific plans and action items to remedy or mitigate the dire impacts of New Mexico’s current and future water problems.

U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury will open the conference with her Keynote: Effecting Transformative Change in New Mexico Water Governance. We will then be joined by experts making short presentations and then leading interactive discussions with conference participants.

The Advocates hope that participants will use this conference and its focused breakout sessions to identify key actions that we all can take to effect transformative change.  Important, we need to decide how to start on practical paths to timely implementation.

Please attend and invite others.  Engage with us to to prepare our beloved Middle Rio Grande for as resilient a water future as possible.

The free meetings will be virtual over  The following links to specifics will be enabled as soon as the target data becomes available.
